Black History Month 2024 Infographics

These print graphics were created for my employer to celebrate and to inform employees on Black History Month 2024 with an interactive infographic campaign. Based on the Association for Study of African American Life and History’s Black History Month 2024 theme “African Americans and the Arts,” interactive, informational posters featuring influential African American figures in areas of music, visual, performing, and culinary arts were posted in common areas of the office.

Initial Poster

The first poster was posted in the common areas during the last week of January and remained as the centerpiece of the display throughout the month of February. This poster informed employees of the theme for Black History Month with a QR code linking to the ASALH website for more information on Black History Month and the theme for 2024. This image was the basis for the color scheme, imagery, textures, and visual elements of other print graphics in the campaign.

Week 1: Influencers in Music

The first week of the Black History Month campaign featured African American influencers in the music industry: Aretha Franklin, Louis Armstrong, Ma Rainey, and Ray Charles. In addition to the featured individual’s portrait and short biography, the QR code links those with smartphones to video and audio of the featured musician.

Week 2: Influencers in Visual Arts

The second week of the Black History Month campaign featured African American influencers in the visual arts: Amy Sherald, Annie Lee, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Kehinde Wiley. A sample of the featured artist and short biography are presented with the QR code links to the portfolio site or social media of the artist.

Week 3: Influencers in Culinary Arts

The third week of the Black History Month campaign featured African American influencers in the culinary arts: B. Smith, James Hemings, Lazarus Lynch, and Zephyr Wright. The QR codes linked to video, recipes, cook books, or other historical information about the respective chef featured.

Week 4: Influencers in the Performing Arts

The final week featured African American influencers in the performing arts (dance, film, stage, and other forms): Josephine Baker, Eartha Kitt, Spike Lee, and August Wilson. The QR codes linked viewers to performance footage, interviews, or other video content of the featured artist.
