Rationale
A Brand Style Guide is for a company to know exactly how to use their company brand. Where to place the logo, how big is should be, when to use color and when to use black and white. Style guides are created for company marketing teams, design teams and any other department in the company that would need to create something using the brand logo, so that the company is representing their brand as deemed appropriate and correctly by the design and in the way the designer intended the logo, images, typography, etc. to be used. Without a brand style guide companies would have skewed and multi-colored designed to their brands. For this artifact to be effective it needs to show exactly how the elements of the brand should be used and give examples on how not to use them so that there is less of a gray area for the companies design/marketing teams.
The overall concept of this brand style guide is music for generation Zers and Millennials. Millennials and generation Zers both have unique preferences when it comes to design and what why like. Millennials and gen Zers are both very inclusive and open-minded when it comes to the world in general. They do not want people excluded for any reason. Millennials prefer earthy colors and gen Zers prefer neon and bright flashy colors.
They both astoundingly prefer sans serif typefaces to serifs. My artifact communicates that this new company for streaming music is fun and down to earth, but serious when needed. This company is inclusive and caters to a younger generation, but does leave the Millennials out to dry either. This brand is new and thriving and ready to give this new upcoming generation something they will enjoy.
I chose to use elements that my target audience would prefer while utilizing them in ways the principles would create an authentic and unique design.
This design I worked extremely hard on and I do feel it shows one of my best works. I put a lot of time and effort in to the details of this piece to make sure I had all of the elements required plus all the design elements and decisions I made were for the target audience and getting them interested in the product. I was in Chorus in school and I thought using a music note would be an extra element that would help this brand. I wanted to stay in the Music theme and create a visually pleasing logo that I would wear on a hoodie or t-shirt. As a Millennial I had a some advantage as I know what my preferences are and most of them coincide with the overall preference of
Millennials in general as well.
Everything can use some type of improvements. I have revised my artifacts with my professor’s feedback each time I have receive it. I have asked questions and thought about the feedback I have received from other students to make sure I had an open mind on the project.
