Infographic Presentation Page

Rationale
I would focus on the fact that all age groups increased in using at least one social media site from 2012 to 2021. The intended audience for my infographic is the marketing team. Suppose our goal is to keep our target audience updated with what is happening, why not expand our target audience to include an older target audience to give them this same information in a way that they would prefer? Just because people are older doesn’t mean they do not want to know what’s happening and stay on trend.
All tabs in the data set are related by age and date—the age of people correlating to the date and having used a social media platform. The data just shows that from 2012 to 2021 the percentage of U.S adults who say they have used at least one social media platform has increased exponentially.
This data tells me that this trend of using social platforms is only going to increase in the future. Mainly because the 18 – 29 range will be replaced with the next generation of social media users and on and so forth, this means the percentage of this same set of data in a few years is going to be astonishing in the fact that most people from all age groups use at least one social media platform.
For the visualization type, I feel like a line graph showing the different ages and all the lines going up and increasing in using the platforms would be the best way to represent this data to the marketing group in the hopes that they will start to include the older generations or start targeting them with what is trending and what is going on in the tech world. I would use a bar graph to show how much of a jump the age groups 50- 64 and 65+ have increased. Lastly, an area graph to show how many Millennials there are and how much this group means to this company. Seeing how much the target audience represents should make the marketing team want to keep on targeting that group when they are no longer the target audience age group.
For the scale and size of the visualization, I would use the size of a slide or a standard 8.5 X 11 canvas to show this increase over time. This way the details would be more visible and easily understood to the marketing team.
As for the colors I would use they would come straight from the Brand Style Guide. I would use Satin Blue, black, and white as the base colors of the visualization. I would then use Crowd Green as the base color for the different line/bar colors for each age group on each graph.
The fonts I would use would be Aileron Heavy as the title and key. For the labels of the graph and the measurements, I would use Aileron Regular.
By using the visualization preferences above, it will make the graph easier to read. Having the age groups represented by a very distinct color you will be able to see the trends of having used a social media platform within U.S. adults over the period. This will convey that the numbers would only increase as the future generations age to take over the next age group. Before we know it the Millennials with be in those 50-64 and 65+ age groups. We are the technology generation.
The story of this data is that the percentage of U.S. adults using social media platforms will increase as time progresses. How can we as Tech Crowd get ahead of this and bring in all age groups as their target audience ages? Millennials may still want to know what is trending and what’s going on in the tech world even when we get old. As for currently, this would give the older crowd something to talk to their grandchildren about while they are still here.
